Dr. Taiwo A. Lawal – Plenary

Dr. Taiwo A. Lawal is of the Department of Surgery of the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan. He also lectures in the Department of Biomedical Engineering of the Faculty of Technology at the same University. He is a Honorary Consultant Paediatric Surgeon to the University College Hospital, Ibadan.

He graduated from the University of Ibadan with a Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 2000. He completed an MSc in Epidemiology and Medical Statistics from the same University and has a Doctorate Degree in Medicine from the Hannover Medical School in Germany. He is a Fellow of the West African College of Surgeons (FWACS), the American College of Surgeons (FACS) and the International College of Surgeons (FICS). He had Clinical and Research Fellowship trainings at the Medinische Hochschule Hannover, Germany; the Pediatric Colorectal Center at the Cincinnati Children’s Hospital Medical Center, Cincinnati, USA; the Center for Colorectal and Pelvic Reconstruction, Nationwide Children’s Hospital, Columbus, USA among others.

His research interests are in the areas of surgical care of birth defects, paediatric colorectal disorders, outcome research and medical education. He served as the Sub-Dean (Undergraduate) MBBS in the Faculty of Clinical Sciences between 2014 and 2018 and is currently, the Sub-Dean Postgraduate. He is a reviewer for several international and local journals and serves on the editorial boards of the African Journal of Medicine and Medical Sciences and Prime Medics Journal. He has over 100 publications in peer reviewed journals.
