Prof. S.I.B. Cadmus
Professor Cadmus, is a veterinarian, a frontline scientist in the diagnostics and molecular epidemiology of tuberculosis. He is a Professor of Veterinary Public Health and currently the Director, Center for Control and Prevention of Zoonoses, University of Ibadan, Nigeria.
He set up the Tuberculosis Research Laboratory at the Department of Veterinary Public Health & Preventive Medicine, the University of Ibadan in 2004. In the last 20 years, he has been actively involved in tuberculosis research focusing his attention on diagnostics, conventional and molecular epidemiology of the disease with emphasis on zoonotic TB. He has also been actively involved in extensive research on brucellosis in animals and humans. Importantly, over the years, he has continued to make the abattoirs, hospitals and pastoralist settings the theatres of his research work.
He was part of the expert group that deliberated on the conceptualization of “The Roadmap for Zoonotic Tuberculosis” in Geneva in April 2016. He is currently the Chair of the Zoonotic TB Sub-section of The Union (i.e. The International Union Against Tuberculosis and Lung Disease).
Notably, in 2016, he founded The Ibarapa Meje One Health Initiative (TIMOHI), a “One Health” platform in Nigeria towards addressing endemic, emerging and remerging zoonotic/infectious diseases at the human-animal-ecosystem interface.
Prof Cadmus is also a recipient of several local and international grants including the Fogarty, John D and Catherine T MacArthur, TETfund, CRDF-USA grants among others.
To date, Prof. Cadmus has over 110 scientific publications in highly reputable local and international journals and 7 Book Chapters.
